Currently under discussion in the ‘IBs on eBay’ section is a car for sale on eBay: a 911 3.2 Carrera that I shot for Total 911 magazine this time last year. The car did not get a good reception on IB: unfairly, in my opinion.
The Carrera had been overhauled by C&N Customs in Middle Aston. This was the first time I had encountered that business, and Chris & Nick turned out to be great guys with a slick sense of style. The 911 is a nice example of their work.
Painted in Porsche Violet Pearl, the paint is superb: not that you would know it in these pictures from the eBay ad. I’ve seen a few cars from their paintshop now and liked them all. The interior is a move away from the same-old lightweight trim with Recaro seats. Instead, this features a custom fitted 996 dash and modified door panels, lots of electronics, air conditioning (996 panel works the lot) and a sweet stereo install with touch screen Pioneer nav.
The rear section is custom: lots of shaped panels with a JBL sub in the centre. Again the work is nice, trimmed in light blue alcantara with matching headliner. The custom centre console features iPod hook up. Outside is a proper 964 bumper and sill kit with the RS America-style tail.
I can understand why the car got a rough reception on IB. The pics are terrible and the lovely Speedline wheels it was fitted with for my shoot have been changed for lousy looking Cups. If you’ve got Cups on your car then all power to you. Personally I think they look totally wrong and the car never drives well with them fitted.
While I understand the bad press, throwaway comments like ‘fugly’ and the oh-so-original ‘WTF’ are good examples of shittest points of the Internet: it is all too easy to flick up a quick comment in the negative.
If this is your style of forum feedback, then consider what someone might say were they to see your car for sale with bad-hair-day pics and a half arsed description. Think before you type. If you’re not going to say something nice, or qualify your negative with an informed opinion then why not keep your hands off the keyboard? Negative comments do writers few favours: save them for stuff that matters (like Cup wheels on IBs).
Anyone in the market for a clean 3.2 who is not fussy about having an original colour should go see this car. I genuinely liked it when I drove it.
If you hate that inside, everything changed there is reversible and the bits are cheap enough. The metal 3.2 dash beneath has not been cut and shut to get the modified unit in, and the high-end bits fitted would still be worth money. I reckon those wheels would have to go but, at a £15,000 asking price, everything is negotiable.
